Saturday, April 30, 2016
Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts (3rd floor, Studio C)
1428 Alice St.,
Oakland, CA 94612
1 - 2 pm Dunham Technique with Dr. Albirda Rose
2 - 3 pm Hip Hop with Phylicia Stroud
3 - 4 pm "Here We Go Again!" with Latanya Tigner In this workshop, participants will experience how different traditional African and African Diasporic dances show up again and again in African American dance as means of rejuvenation, evidence of resilience, acts of resistance, and roads to revelation.
4 - 5 pm Community Conversation - A blend of discussion, information dissemination, and networking. *Looking at the impacts taking place lately regarding the arts: especially funding/available & affordable performance spaces and how the venues are being managed. What are the ways we can begin to have a voice in the use of these spaces, as well as how funding is allocated to support presenting our art/artists? What are the ways African-American artists/presenters can continue to take a more active role in the art and culture in Oakland and SF?
